D-DAY: Time for the Action at MXGP Patagonia Argentina

The activity of the fifth edition of the MXGP Patagonia Argentina has officially started, this year also being the opening round of the FIM Motocross World Championship.

The teams went through technical verifications in the morning and in the afternoon the action was concentrated in the center of Villa La Angostura with a signing session by the riders and the great show of Freestyle Argentino.

The organizers of MXGP Patagonia Argentina confirmed an agreement with Youthstream to have the Championship for the next two years.

It has been a Friday with many activities at Patagonia Race Track Paddock. After the technical verifications, the starting grid is made up of 63 riders, out of which 34 are in the MX2 category (up to 23 years old) and 29 in MXGP. This category enjoys the presence of the many-times champion Antonio Cairoli (KTM), who curiously has not been able to win in Argentina yet), Max Nagl (KTM), Romain Febvre (Yamaha), Tim Gajser (Honda) and Clement Desalle (Kawasaki). Also, this year Pauls Jonass, (2017 and 2018 MX2 Champion) will be competing in the main category. In this fifth edition of the MXGP in the country (this is the only round in the MXGP calendar in South America), Argentina will be well represented by a group of 8 riders (3 in MXGP and 5 in MX2) including Joaquín Poli.

 

Press Conference “We signed an agreement for the next two years for the MXGP in Argentina”

The Opening Press Conference of the 2019 season was held this afternoon in the Media Center with the presence of Mr. David Luongo (Youthstream CEO), Mr. Tony Skillington (FIM CEO), Antonio Alia Portela (FIM /CMS Director), David Eli (General Coordinator MXGP Patagona Argentina, Local Organizer), Guillermo Carusso (Mayor of Villa La Angostura) and riders Antonio Cairoli, Jorge Prado, Romain Febvre, Clement Desalle, Tim Gajser and Pauls Jonass.

Statements

David Luongo (Youthstream CEO): “It is very good to start the season here in Argentina.  It is always a great pleasure for everyone to start here in a high quality race like this”.

Antonio Alia Portela (FIM/CMS Director): “I want to thank Youthstream and Más Eventos for organizing this great event in Villa La Angostura and for making this event one of my favorites in the season and for making our lives very easy here.  There is so much effort made by these people for this event every year. I also want to thank the local authorities”.

David Eli (General Coordinator MXGP Patagonia Argentina): “I am only the visible face of a team that works very well and which loves this event, and that is the reason for the good results. I want to say that this round was only possible thanks to the great effort made by the Government of the province of Neuquén through its Ministry of Tourism. I want also to thank the Municipality of Villa La Angostura, which is for me maybe the most beautiful place in Argentina”.

Antonio Cairoli (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing): “It is nice to be here. The place is awesome and the organization is fantastic. Also because we have incredible fans in South America and it is good to meet them here and start the season in Argentina”.

Tim Gasjer (HRC): “It is nice to be back here after having missed this GP last year. It was a good winter for me. I feel fine with my bike. I´m very anxious to start the season here in Argentina. I like the track. In the past I had good results here”.

Pauls Jonnas (Rockstar Husqvarna Factory Racing): “This track is one of my favorites in the Championship. I was eager to come here.  I feel very confident with my bike.”

 

Villa La Angostura got excited by the MXGP

In the evening, crowds of fans gathered at Plaza Los Pioneros and they showed their passion for the category. It was a free event for fans. MXGP riders signed autographs for their fans.

Also, the “Navarro Brothers” offered a great Freestyle show which amazed everyone.

The Action Starts Tomorrow

This Saturday engines will start at MXGP Patagonia Argentina. The day will begin with the Free Practices for both categories as from 10:45am.  The main attraction in the day will be the Qualifying Race (20 minutes + 2 laps) which will be run at 15:25 (MX2) and 16:10 (MXGP).
